On April 29, 2025 we had the pleasure to welcome Dr. Simone Berkel (Molecular Neurogenetics, University Hospital, Heidelberg) for a guest talk in our RTG. The main interest of the Berkel group is to better understand the genetic cause of neurodevelopmental disorders such as intellectual disability and autism spectrum disorders. For this purpose, she studies disease mutations of diverse genes. Her talk on the role of SHANK2 in neurodevelopmental disorders was highly appreciated. Equally well received was a second guest lecture by Dr. Yvonne Schwarz (Molecular Neurophysiology, Saarland University, Homburg), who visted our RTG on May 6, 2025 (“Friends and foes at the synapse: emerging players in presynaptic plasticity”. We thank both speakers for the interesting talks and lively discussions.
